Uninstall MacFuse - how it works
If you want to uninstall MacFuse, this can sometimes be a bit tricky. The extension enables you to read and write to non-operating system filesystems under Mac OS X. Since MacFuse is free, users like to use it to get full access to Windows' own NTFS file system. However, MacFuse has not been maintained by developers for some time, and support for the newer versions of MacOS is in fact no longer available. So if you want to switch to alternative drivers, such as NTFS from Paragon, you usually want to uninstall MacFuse. Read in this practical tip how you can do this successfully.
Uninstall the MacFuse system extension
First you should run the on-board uninstall function.
- Open the "System Settings".
- Click the "Remove MacFUSE" button. This removes all components of the driver except for the icon in the system settings.
- Right-click on the icon and select the option "Remove MacFUSE system settings".
If the uninstallation is canceled with an error message, there are other ways to get rid of MacFuse. For example, you could use an uninstall tool like AppCleaner to get rid of unloved programs like MacFuse. However, be aware that such programs intervene very deeply in the system and should therefore be used with caution. How to use the AppCleaner can be read here in the third paragraph.
