MacOS: Permanently delete files
To securely and permanently delete files and folders from your Mac, you have to take a small detour via the Finder's program menu. Here we show you how to transfer your files to data nirvana in a few seconds.
Permanently delete files on Mac
The function to securely delete your data is somewhat hidden on the Mac. With these steps it is still child's play to delete your data irrevocably.
- Put the files and folders you want to delete in the trash. The wastebasket is located in the bottom right of the dock.
- Switch to Find by clicking on the Finder icon in the Dock.
- Click on "Finder" in the menu bar at the top of the screen.
- From the drop-down menu, select the option "Empty the trash safely ..."
- In the dialog box, confirm that you really want to empty your trash safely and that you want to permanently delete all files.
Alternatively, you can also click on the trash with the [Crtl] key pressed and select "Empty trash" from the menu. However, this method of deletion is less secure and your deleted files may be recoverable.
