MacOS El Capitan Clean Install: How it works
If you want to do a clean install of MacOS El Capitan, you only need a few clicks. Read in this practical tip how to do this.
MacOS: How to perform a clean install from El Capitan
- First, backup your system with the Time Machine.
- Then open the app store on your Mac and switch to the "Purchases" tab if you have already purchased El Capitan. Alternatively, you can download El Capitan here.
- Note: If the installation opens, cancel it with [CMD] + [Q].
- Then download and install the free DiskMaker tool.
- Then start the tool and select "El Capitan". Now you should connect a USB stick to the PC.
- In the next step click on "Use this copy" to continue. In the next step you have to confirm with "To 8 GB USB thumb drive".
- In the next step, select the USB stick from the list and confirm with "Use this disk". To use the USB stick, you have to format it with "Erase this disk".
- Confirm this process by clicking on "Continue" and then entering your administrator password.

- After entering the administrator password, the copying process is started. Wait for it to finish.
- You can then close the tool by clicking on "Quit" or make a small donation.
- Then restart the Mac and press and hold the [Alt] key during startup.
