- A new graphic technology called "Metal" is used in El Capitan. The performance in games is said to improve noticeably.

- Many users will already know "Split View" from Windows. Now you can work side by side on Mac with two applications. For example, you can simultaneously create a document and research information on the Internet.
- Mission Control makes cleaning up the desk even easier: Swipe the trackpad to display all open programs side by side on one level.

The search becomes even more intelligent and knows more answers than before.
- The previous answers have been expanded to include search results for weather, sports, stocks, web videos and public transport.
- Spotlight now also understands search queries that are formulated colloquially. For example, you can search for "Documents I worked on last night" and get the right results.

Safari has also been given some new tools and should also use less computing power at the same time.
- With website pins you can pin frequently visited websites. These are then open and updated throughout.

Map improvements in Mac OS X El Capitan
In addition to the foot and car route, navigation now also knows public transport.
- The "Maps" app now also contains the best routes for public transport. A more complicated route with a footpath between the stations is also described in detail.
- At the start, the forecast for public transport in Germany is only available in Berlin. Other cities are soon to follow.
- You can plan and calculate a route at home on your Mac and then send it to your iPhone, which then navigates you.
Other app improvements in Mac OS X El Capitan
Many other system programs have also been adapted and improved. This includes notes, photos and mail.
- You can use content from other apps in the notes. For example, a website can be integrated or an address together with the card data. You can also create checklists.
- The notes are instantly synced across all of your devices. So you can plan the shopping list on Mac and then use it on iPhone.
- Your photo collection is now easier to manage. For example, you can sort the photos by the faces of friends or add locations to the photos later.
- The full screen mode for "Mail" has been revised. There are now tabs and you can more easily access the inbox while writing an email. There are also other practical gestures for simply deleting and marking mails.
- With one click you can create a new event in the calendar from a mail or add a contact.
