MacOS X: Find out the version
If you don't know which version of MacOS you have, you can easily find out for yourself. In this practical tip, we will show you how to do it.
How to find out your version of MacOS X.
For example, if you want to upgrade to the next higher version, you first have to know whether you have installed Snow Leopard, Lions, Mountain Lions or maybe Mavericks.
- You click on the apple in the top left.
- Next, select the "About this Mac" item.
- A window opens with your version number, for example 10.9.1.
Here you can read which version number belongs to which version name:
- 10.5.x = leopard
- 10.6.x = Snow Leopard
- 10.7.x = Lion
- 10.8.x = Mountain Lion
- 10.9.x = Mavericks
