Mail provider change: From GMail to T-Online - how it works
Switching the mail provider from "GMail" to "T-Online" can be worthwhile. If you receive too much spam, want to protect your data better or change for another reason - the following tips will make the change go smoothly.
Step 1: set up a T-Online account
First of all you have to set up a new email account with T-Online. You can choose between a free basic mailbox and a premium mailbox. The latter gives you 4.95 euros more storage space per month, an intelligent spam filter, advertising freedom and other advantages.
- Select the desired tariff here.
- Enter your details and the desired email address and click "Complete registration".
Step 2 (optional): Set up forwarding from GMail to T-Online
If you want to make sure that you receive all important mails during the transition period, but you don't always want to check both mailboxes, you can set up a forwarding to your Telekom account.
- Log in to your GMail account.
- Click on "Settings" in the top right, then on "Forwarding and POP / IMAP".
- Click on "Add address for forwarding" and enter your new T-Online address.
- Confirm two times with "Next".
Step 3: delete GMail account
Finally, delete your email account with Google as soon as you no longer need it. If someone still wants to send you an email to your Google address, he or she will receive an error message that the address does not exist.
- Log in to your GMail account.
- Follow this link and confirm the process with your password.
