Install mainboard - how it works
The heart of every PC is the mainboard. We will show you how you can safely install the board yourself.
Install new mainboard in PC
If you upgrade to a newer motherboard, there are a few things to consider when installing. Before you install the motherboard, you may be able to install the processor and the CPU cooler, since you can reach the device more easily before installing.
- The motherboard should never come into direct contact with the case with the pins on the back.
- Therefore small spacing screws are attached to the mainboard or the housing (see picture). These are mostly brass-colored, Allen-shaped screws that are equipped with a thread on the top instead of a head. With this raised thread, you create a distance of approx. 1 centimeter between the circuit board and the rear wall of the housing.
- Since several motherboard sizes usually fit in one housing, you first have to find the right places for the screws. So look at the holes on the mainboard and attach the spacer screws in the correct threads in the case. It is best to put the housing aside for this.
- The next step is often forgotten by beginners and causes frustration because you then have to remove all the screws again: you almost always have to replace the cover for the connections on the mainboard, since the arrangement and number vary from model to model. So remove the old cover and attach the new one. Most of these parts are only clamped and can be carefully pushed out.
- In the last step, carefully place the mainboard on the previously screwed-in spacer screws. Now check that everything is in the middle and that all connections are properly seated in the panel. Then screw the enclosed screws into the holes provided in the mainboard. Since many places are not always easily accessible, a slightly magnetic screwdriver is worthwhile in this case.
