Remove malware with Avira - how it works
If a virus or other malware has sneaked into your system, you can remove the culprits with Avira AntiVir. In this practical tip, we'll tell you how you can really catch any malware.
Remove malware with Avira - the preparations
In order for Avira AntiVir to find any potential malware on your PC, you should make a few preparations:
- If you want to play it safe, start your computer in safe mode.
- Then update the Avira database. To do this, click on "Start update" in the Avira main menu and wait until the security tool has downloaded all virus definitions.
- Then click on "System Scanner" in the left column. Start the "complete system check" using the search button. Avira then scans your entire system for malware.
- For security reasons, you should close all other programs during the process. If your CPU usage is very high, we will help you in the next article.
Avira AntiVir: Safely remove malware
- When the scan is complete, Avira shows you all the objects found. You can either "delete", "quarantine" unwanted malware, or just "deny access".
- If you move the files to quarantine, they can no longer cause damage. The viruses can also be safely deleted from the quarantine later.
- If you only deny access, the file remains on your computer but can no longer be used. So if the malware is a program, you can no longer start it.
- If you want to be on the safe side, you can delete all finds directly. If you then restart your computer, your PC is safe again.
To ensure that your system always stays clean, you can create an automatic search request in Avira. The virus scanner searches for malware at regular intervals.
