Remove Mamba virus: get rid of ransomware
Once you have caught the Mamba virus, it is extremely difficult to remove this ransomware. We show you what the malware does on your PC and how to get rid of it.
Mamba virus: what does the ransomware do?
- The Mamba virus is one of the most persistent types of ransomware. At the end of November 2016, the pest paralyzed 2, 000 computers from the San Francisco public transport company. But private individuals are also affected.
- As with ransomware, infection with Mamba encrypts all personal files on the computer and only releases them for a ransom. Mamba goes one step further: not only the files are encrypted, but the entire hard disk.
How does the Mamba virus get on my PC?
- Ransomware usually makes it to the computer via mail attachments. An invoice or a request for payment is often faked. If the attachment is opened, it is usually too late.
- With the Mamba virus, the installation of an app is shown as required. If you confirm the process, the computer restarts. The malicious service that takes silent control of the computer is embedded deep in the system.
- The next time you log in, the DiskCryptor software will be installed in the background and used for other purposes. You still have access to all of your files. Only at the next restart does the ransom message appear before Windows starts. If you contact the email address displayed, you will receive instructions on how to pay the ransom.
Remove Mamba virus - does it work?
- The cases of ransomware are increasing. Some types of ransomware, such as Locky, can remove the malware and restore the encrypted files. This is currently not possible with the Mamba virus.
- Due to the complexity of the ransomware, nothing will change. The system is well sealed off from the outside. You will need the password to unlock it. You only get this from the blackmailer.
Mamba virus caught: blackmailers pay or not?
- It is not advisable to comply with the extortionists' demands. Nobody currently knows how much the usual ransom is set. Payment is made anonymously via BitCoins and therefore cannot be traced.
- Even if you pay the ransom, there is no guarantee that your computer will really be unlocked. Unfortunately, even with extremely important data, you have to put up with the loss of the data.
- To use your PC again, you have to reinstall Windows. In the best case, you have the Windows installation CD. If this is not the case, follow these instructions. In order for the installation to start from the CD or USB stick and not the Mamba virus when restarting, you must first change the boot sequence in the BIOS.
Unfortunately, removal of such special viruses is not possible. In the next practical tip, we will show you what else to do in the event of a virus attack.
