Set up master password in Firefox - how it works
With a master password you protect yourself in the Firefox browser against unauthorized access. In this practical tip, we explain how to set up such a password.
Set the master password in the Firefox browser
- Click on the menu icon in the top right.
- Now open the settings by clicking on the "gear" symbol.
- Then go to the "Security" tab.
- Place a checkmark next to "Use master password"
- Now enter your master password twice in the opened window and confirm it with "OK".
Note: The tip refers to Firefox 29.0. Every time you restart Firefox and the browser needs access to your saved passwords, you will be asked to enter the master password. If you then exit the Firefox browser, you will block access again.
