Washing the mattress cover: you have to consider that
You noticed a stain on the mattress - high time to wash the mattress cover. Read how it gets really clean.
How often you should wash your mattress cover
Your mattress has to endure a lot. They have chosen around two million mites to be at home and we humans leave half a liter of sweat and dandruff every night.
- Wash your mattress cover once a year. If you wash it more often, the material wears out too much.
- Allergy sufferers wash the cover every three to four months. In this way, the allergy symptoms can be reduced.
- If you sweat profusely, use a mattress pad. It protects the mattress, keeps dirt away and can be washed more often and more easily.
How to clean the cover properly
When buying, make sure that your mattress has a removable cover with a full zip on all sides.
- Read the wash label carefully. Most covers can be washed at 60 degrees. Powder and liquid detergents are equally suitable. Fabric softener is not necessary.
- Pay attention to the zipper. This can only be attached to one side or all around. If it is one-sided, it is almost impossible to remove the cover and certainly not to open it again. Better not try it. Removing is no problem with multi-sided zippers. How to clean your mattress without washing, read in the next chapter.
- Use a 60 degree wash if the material allows it. This is the only way to kill all mites. Turn on pre-wash for thorough cleaning. The spin speed should be a maximum of 800. Otherwise the fabric will warp.
- Let the coating air dry . Best lying down or stretched over several chairs. A dryer is not suitable because the fabric can shrink. Then you can pull the mattress cover back on - preferably in pairs.
- If the cover is too big for the washing machine, take it to the cleaning shop or go to a laundromat. Larger machines are available there.
How to clean the cover without a washing machine
You can also keep your mattress clean without a washing machine.
