Mouse: Disable side buttons - how it works
On a mouse with multiple side buttons, it often happens that they are pressed accidentally. This practical tip shows you how to deactivate the buttons.
Disable side mouse buttons - so it'll work
You can only swap the primary mouse buttons using the Windows options. To assign or deactivate all keys, you need a driver or a program for the mouse.
- If you still have the mouse packaging, check whether a CD with a suitable driver was included. Install this.
- If you don't find a driver, you can google the name of the mouse with the addition "Driver", for example "GamingMaus XY driver". Then download the appropriate driver.
- Install the driver and open the configuration client.
- In this program you can assign functions to the mouse buttons or deactivate them.
- Please note: You can only deactivate the side buttons if the mouse program also offers this option. For example, this does not work with Trust mice.
We will show you how to swap the mouse buttons under Windows 8 in the next practical tip.
