Mouse pointer disappeared: solve problem
In some cases, just trying a few key combinations is enough. Note: These instructions refer to Windows 7.
- Switch to your desktop and simultaneously press the FN and F7 keys.
- If your mouse doesn't move after that, try FN + F8 and FN + F9.
- In most cases, your mouse should work properly again. If not, use the instructions in the following paragraphs.
Check the mouse connections and change the USB port
- Disconnect your mouse from your computer and then connect it again. It is best to use a different USB port for this.
- Computer mice often don't work on USB 3.0 ports. Therefore, connect your mouse to a USB 2.0 port and check whether the mouse pointer reappears.
Reinstall the mouse driver
- Press the Windows key and enter "Device Manager" in the search field. Select the result with the Enter key.
- Use the tab and arrow keys to switch to the entry "Mice and other pointing devices" and expand the menu with a tap of the right arrow key.
- Select your mouse and press Enter.
- Use the tab to switch to the "Driver" tab and select the "Uninstall" option.
- Disconnect your mouse from your computer and restart it.
- Log in to your PC and connect your mouse again. If possible, use a USB 2.0 port.
- Now the driver for your mouse will be reinstalled and your mouse pointer should reappear on your desktop.
Update graphics card driver and Windows
In some cases, the problem can also be due to outdated graphics card drivers or a non-updated version of Windows.
- Update your graphics card driver. You may have to ask a friend to download this for you if you don't have a second computer available.
- To update Windows, click the Windows button and enter "Windows Update" in the search field.
- Use the tab and enter key to select and install the updates.
- Restart your PC after both updates.
