Mavericks: restore the function of the power button
Since OS X Mavericks, your Mac immediately goes to sleep when you press the power button. You can restore the dialer so that your Mac doesn't go to sleep immediately.

So that your Mac shows a window when you press the power button, in which you can choose between "Shutdown", "Restart" or "Hibernation", you have to enter a short command into the terminal.
- Save and close all programs.
- Open the "Terminal" via Spotlight.
- Enter the following command: "defaults write com.apple.loginwindow PowerButtonSleepsSystem -bool no" (without quotes).
- Reboot your Mac. Each time you press the power button, a dialog is shown in which you can select the desired action.

- To have the original settings again, repeat the process with the command "defaults write com.apple.loginwindow PowerButtonSleepsSystem -bool yes" (without quotation marks).
