Install Media Center for Windows 8.1
Unfortunately, the Media Center is no longer available for free under Windows 8 and 8.1. In this practical tip, we explain how you can add the feature to Windows 8.1 - and also recommend free alternatives.
Windows 8.1: Install Media Center
- Press the "Windows" and "W" keys simultaneously, so that the search opens on the right of the screen.
- Enter "System" there and select the entry of the same name.
- A new window opens with the system information. Relatively high up you will find the blue link "Get more features with a new edition of Windows" or "Add features to Windows 8".
- If you confirm the subsequent security question with "Yes", a new window opens again.
- If you already have a product key, you can enter it via "I already have a product key" and the media center will be downloaded and installed. If you still bought it, select "I want to purchase a product key online".
- If you have the normal version of Windows 8.1, you have to upgrade to Windows 8.1 Pro for 159.99 euros. The media center is already included there. If you already have Windows 8.1 Pro, you can buy the Media Center for 9.99 euros.
- If you click the "Select" button next to the desired product, you will be redirected to the payment process. Enter your address details there and select a payment method. Once the money has been transferred, the media center is downloaded and installed.
