Medion: Setting up the NAS server - a guide
After the initial setup of the Median NAS server, it should run without much maintenance. This practical tip shows you how to do the first setup correctly.
Set up the Medion NAS server in the network
Before you can start setting up, you need to properly connect your NAS.
- To do this, connect your NAS to your router using a LAN cable. The router must be on and have a DHCP server activated. If you do not know whether you are running such a server, simply continue with the instructions. This is usually the case.
- Insert the plug of the power supply into your NAS and connect the power supply to your home network.
First commissioning of your Medion NAS server
Now your NAS server is properly connected to the network and the first configuration can start. To do this, you need a PC that is connected to the same network as your NAS.
- You still need to install the NAS software on your PC. This should have been included with your purchase.
- To do this, insert the CD into your drive and follow the instructions of the installation wizard.
- You will also be asked if you want to install the "Memeo Instant Backup" program. However, the software is not necessary for these instructions.
Configure your Medion NAS server
Start the installed software "Medion NAS Tool" to connect to your NAS.
- At first the "NAS Seeker" appears. All NAS available on your network are displayed in a list. Select your new NAS and click "Connect".
- In the new window that appears, click on "Configuration" in the top left and then on "Installation Wizard" to set up your NAS.
- You have the choice between standard and manual configuration. As a rule, the standard configuration should be suitable.
- You can ignore the delusion that all files will now be deleted from your NAS, since you have not yet copied any files to your NAS.
- Your system should now be successfully set up.
Change admin password in the Medion NAS server
It is very important during the initial setup that you change the administrator's password.
- To do this, open the "Medion NAS Tool" and click on "Configuration" and then on "Administration".
- Your web browser with the web configurator opens. Log in with the user account admin and the password 1234 .
- Initially the menu is in English, change this to German in the top right.
- Select the menu item "System settings" and then "Network shares".
- Here click on "User" and select the user "admin" from the list. Click on "Edit" above the list.
- You can now set a new password here. Don't forget to write down your password in a suitable place so that you don't forget it.
