Michelin route planner - what are the alternatives?
Michelin's route planner has been facing considerable competition in recent years. We present three alternative route planning websites and recommended navigation apps.
Car, bicycle, on foot or by train - route planning via Google Maps
- Google Maps has not yet reached the full range of functions of the Viamichelin route planner, but it does include a feature with public transport route planning that Michelin does not yet offer.
- Thanks to Google's cooperation with Deutsche Bahn, you can also plan completely car-free trips.
- The Google Maps also offer great entertainment value - why read here.
- Google Maps is of course also available as an app for iOS and Android.
The unknown route planner: here.com
- The former online map top dog map24 has teamed up with the former mobile phone top dog Nokia and launched the portal here.com some time ago.
- The route planner options are limited to cars and footpaths; The public transport option works in Germany if only in the inner city and lags far behind the competition in terms of functionality.
- Sharing and community functions are very important at here.com: Local collections can be shared with others; the community can also keep the map material up to date by hand.
- Here.com has a route planner app for Android devices.
ADAC-Maps: route planning specialist for drivers
- The free route planner of the ADAC can compete with the Michelin website in terms of filters and selection options - for example, you can even set not only the departure date but also the time for perfect travel planning.
- According to the name, the ADAC route planner is aimed exclusively at car and motorcycle drivers - you will not find any walking or cycling routes here.
- You can find the Android app of the ADAC at CHIP as well as the iOS counterpart.
Tip: smartphone owners can browse the best iOS navigation apps here; the Android leaderboard is here. The "social GPS" Waze is available exclusively as an app, a route planner and traffic jam detector, which is mainly fed by the feedback from the community. You can find out more about the Android or iOS version here: Waze for Android; Waze for iPhone / iPad.
