Deleting the micro SD card securely - how it works
Micro-SD cards often contain sensitive photos and data that you should better delete safely. Only then can you sell or pass on the SD card. We show you how to do it.
Safely delete micro SD card: How to format the card
With non-magnetic data carriers such as a micro SD card, secure deletion is not as expensive as with normal hard drives:
- In practice, it would be enough if you overwrite the data carrier with zeros once. The normal factory reset on the mobile phone does not always carry out this process. With tools like Recuva, the data could be easily read by a third party.
- If you want to securely delete your Mico-SD card, you must first connect the card to your PC. This works best with a USB card reader or with an SD adapter if your PC has an SD card reader.
- Connect the micro SD card to your PC in this way so that it appears as a drive in your Explorer.
- For deletion, we do not recommend the Windows formatting function, but the Eraser tool.
- Install the program and create a new task in the "Erase Schedule" using the right-click menu. Then click on "Add Data" and set the "Target Type" to "Disk / Partition". In the dropdown menu you can select your micro SD card.
- Then the task appears in your schedule. Start it via the right-click menu (see picture). Then you have safely deleted the data.
Recover data on SD card - what is possible?
With tools like CCleaner you can also safely delete free space. We'll explain what it's all about.
