Microsoft Edge: Change download folder - how it works
As in all common browsers, you can also change the download folder in Microsoft Edge. Here, however, the procedure is much more complicated compared to Google Chrome, Firefox and Co. We present two ways.
Option 1: Change Microsoft Edge download folder
With the Edge browser, Microsoft does a lot better than with Internet Explorer. However, the developers seem to have forgotten one of the essential functions: the download folder cannot be changed in the browser settings. Instead, you have to take a detour through Windows Explorer.
- First open Explorer with the key combination [Windows] + [E].
- In the left column you will find the Downloads folder under "Quick Access". Right-click on the entry.
- Select the "Properties" entry in the context menu.
- Then switch to the "Path" tab and click on "Find destination" below.
- Now select the desired download folder and confirm with "OK".
Variant 2: Change download path in the edge browser
If you opt for the first variant, you change the standard download folder in Windows. If you do not want this, you can only change the folder of the Edge browser via the registry.
- To do this, press the key combination [Windows] + [R] so that the Run dialog opens.
- Enter the command "regedit" and confirm with [Enter].
- In the Windows registry, navigate to the path "HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Explorer \ User Shell Folders" on the left.
- Then double-click on the entry with the value "% USERPROFILE% \ Downloads" in the right column.
- In the new window, enter the desired path of the download folder (eg "C: \ Download").
- Save your settings with "OK" and then restart your PC.
