Microsoft Lync Online (Office Live Meeting) - what is it?
Microsoft Lync Online is the successor to the meeting tool Office Live Meeting. Read in this practical tip what exactly it can do.
Microsoft Lync Online: Meetings over the Internet thanks to web technology
Office Live Meeting is a subscription-based service that was used to hold web conferences. The service has now been discontinued. With the introduction of Office 365, Microsoft is advising users to use Microsoft Lync Online instead.
- Lync Online offers basically the same functions as Office Live Meeting once, but has also been expanded by a number of functions. The focus continues to be on working together and meeting via the Internet.
- Like Office Live Meeting, Lync Online is also paid for using a subscription plan. The starting price is 1.60 for one user per month.
- Lync works on a client basis and is available for different devices. In addition to the PC and server version, this also includes mobile applications for Windows Phone, iPad, iPhone and Android.
- Lync Online's many features include presence information that is transmitted in real time. So you can see if other users are available and contact them directly via instant messaging.
- Lync Online also offers Voice over IP functionality that allows you to talk to other Lync or Skype users. This makes it possible to contact each other via audio or video and to hold web meetings with multiple users. You can even invite users who don't have an Office 365 or Lync Online account.
- Another interesting function is the screen sharing of virtual whiteboards. This way you can make your presentations available to other users during meetings.
