Create mind maps in OpenOffice - how it works
If you want to create MindMaps, you do not need any additional software. We show how it works for free with OpenOffice.
OpenOffice: create mind map
You can create a mind map in all OpenOffice programs. We use the classic OpenOffice writer here. Everything you need to create it can be found below in the "Draw" toolbar.
- Click on the symbol with the "T" at the bottom of the toolbar and then use the mouse to open a text field in the document.
- Write the central point of the mind map in the text field. If you wish, you can enlarge the text or mark it in color.
- Now select the ellipse in the bottom left of the toolbar and drag it over the text so that the font is no longer visible.
- Right-clicking on the ellipse opens the "Arrangement" category in the context menu and the "All the way back" option. Now the text is inside the ellipse.
- If you right-click the ellipse again, you can change the color of the ellipse under the "Surface" option.
- The base is now created. You can then also insert all other points using text fields and, if you wish, outline them with an ellipse, a circle or a rectangle.
- You can use simple lines to connect the individual areas. You will also find this in the toolbar at the bottom left.
Mind maps can also be created with the free software FreeMind. In the next practical tip we will show you how to install a new font in OpenOffice.
