Minecraft: Install 3D Mod
If you are bored with Minecraft pixel graphics, you can embellish the game with a 3D mod. You can find out how the installation works in this practical tip. We have provided some examples for you to download in a mods pack. However, please note that different mods may also require different requirements. Always look at the notes that come with most mods.
Install Minecraft mods from version 1.6
Since the 1.6 update, the so-called "Horse Update", the mod installation has changed a little. There is no longer a "bin" folder and therefore no "minecraft.jar". To install mods anyway:
- Open the "Appdata" folder. To do this, press the Windows key and R at the same time. In the new "Run" window, type "% Appdata%" (without the quotation marks) and click "Ok".
- Click on the ".minecraft" folder and then "versions".
- Select the version on which you want to install the mod. Copy this folder and paste it again in the same place. It is best to append "backup" to the end of the folder name. If something goes wrong later, it is your safeguard that contains the original data.
- If you rename the source folder, make sure that all files in it have the same name. In the ".json" file, also replace the version number with the name of the folder. If you are using version 1.7 or higher, add the version name. This is behind "id:". Replace it with the name of your folder.
- Open the ".jar" file with a program that can display JAR files - for example WinRAR or 7Zip.
- Finally copy all files of the mod into the open JAR file and delete the folder "META-Inf".
- To activate the mod, you have to create a new profile in the launcher. To do this, click on "New Profile" and enter the name of the mod folder you just created under "Use Version". Finally save the profile. Clicking on it now starts Minecraft with Mod.
Insert 3D mods in Minecraft version 1.6 and before
If you have Minecraft version 1.6 or earlier, follow these steps:
- Open the "Appdata" folder. To do this, press the Windows key and R simultaneously. In the new "Run" window, type "% Appdata%" (without the quotation marks) and click "Ok".
- Click on the ".minecraft" and "bin" folders.
- You can open the "minecraft.jar" file it contains with a program that can display JAR files - for example WinRAR or 7Zip.
- Copy all files of the mod into the open "minecraft.jar" and finally delete the folder "META-Inf".
If you get a black screen or the mod does not start, check whether you have deleted the "META-Inf" folder. If necessary, click on "Force Update" and start the game without Mod. If the path shown is too extensive for you, you can alternatively use the ModLoader. Otherwise just cheat a bit with these cheats.
