Play Minecraft in HD - how it works
Minecraft is known for its pixel graphics. We show you how you can still play in HD and give the game a completely new look.
Minecraft in HD: change the resolution
Anyone who has looked into Minecraft's video settings will have noticed that you cannot select a resolution there.
- The video resolution in Minecraft always depends on the window size and therefore does not have to be set manually. With a FullHD screen, it is enough to maximize the window and Minecraft will take over the new resolution directly.
- If you want to play Minecraft without the start bar and the window frame, you can activate the full screen mode in the video settings.
- The resolution of a texture pack refers to the number of pixels per Minecraft block. The resolution of the Minecraft standard texture is 16x16 pixels per block. You will get beautiful results with texture packs that have a resolution of 64x64 pixels or higher.
- Texture packs come in many different styles. Here you can let your personal preferences run wild, as there is a wide range from wickedly rustic to minimalistly modern textures.
- You can easily add a texture pack to your game. To do this, type "% appdata%" in the address bar of your Explorer. Click on the ".minecraft" folder. Now push the downloaded texture pack in the .zip archive into the "resourcepacks" folder.
- To activate the texture pack in the game, go to "Options" in Minecraft and then to "Resource Packs". Here you have the option to select one of several installed texture packs. To do this, click on the triangle in the picture of the texture pack. The texture packs shown on the right are active.
- To confirm your selection and activate the texture pack, click "Done". You can now continue playing with the new texture pack where you left off.
Minecraft in HD: shader packs
You can also use Minecraft with so-called shader packs. These have an impact on the representation of water, sun, shadow and particles.
- Like many texture packs, shader packs can be found on the Internet. Here, too, you decide according to your personal preferences.
- The installation of shader packs requires some preparation. In the respective forum in which you have found your favorite shader pack, there is usually also detailed instructions. Depending on the shader pack, the instructions may differ slightly.
- If you have taken the necessary precautions, you can add several shaders as with the texture packs. To do this, type "% appdata%" in the address bar of your Explorer. Click on the ".minecraft" folder. Now move the downloaded shader in the .zip archive into the "shaderpacks" folder. If this folder does not yet exist, you can create it.
- Like the texture packs, the shaders must be activated in Minecraft. To do this, go to "Options" and then to "Shader". In addition to the selection of the installed shaders, you will find additional settings for the respective shader here. With these settings you can play around depending on your preference.
- To confirm your selection and activate the shader, click "Done".
