Minecraft: Find coal - it's easy
Read this practical tip on how to find coal in Minecraft and what you need it for.
Find coal in Minecraft
One of the first things you need in Minecraft is coal. You can use it to make torches, for example, or use them as fuel in the oven.
- Coal is the only ore that you can find above sea level. The hard coal occurs up to layer 127.
- Most often you will find hard coal in layers 5 to 42. There are approx. 101 ore blocks per 10, 000 m² per shift.
- Each hard coal vein is up to 17 blocks in size. If two wires overlap, the overall size may also be larger.
- So look for coal in flat areas. Here the veins are closer together than in the mountains.
- When searching, first remove the layer of earth and then dig into the ground step by step.
- If you've discovered a coal vein, you'll need a wooden pickaxe or better to mine it.
