Minecraft: Finding and using emeralds - the best tips
Since version 1.3 you can find emeralds in Minecraft. This practical tip explains how you can use it and where you should best look for the coveted ore.
Find emeralds in Minecraft - you should be aware of that
Emeralds hide like any other ore in the deeper layers of the earth:
- To be precise, you will only find the green ore in layers 4 to 31. If you press the [F3] key in the game, you can read your current height under the Y coordinate. It is best to dig down to the appropriate depth or explore large caves.
- Emeralds are found in all biomes, but the ore is particularly common in the extreme mountains. What is special: You will only find emerald ores individually.
- You need at least one iron pickaxe to dismantle it. This gives you one emerald per ore block. However, if you enchant your tool beforehand at a magic table with "Glück III", you will receive up to three gems per block.
- Alternatively, you can also buy emeralds from villagers: To do this, first search for an NPC village and right-click on a resident. With a little luck, he will sell the gems against paper, coal or other materials.
Minecraft: How to use the emeralds
The green gems are currency in Minecraft. You can use it to shop at NPCs and, for example, purchase enchanted tools, diamonds or other fabrics.
- To do this, right-click on a villager and select the desired trade.
- If the NPC has nothing useful to offer, you should try the nearest resident or explore a new village. The offers are constantly changing here.
- You can find a detailed list of all retail stores on the Minecraft wiki.
- The emerald block is chic but less useful: you can create it with nine emeralds in the crafting box and place it anywhere in the world.
In addition to emeralds, Minecraft has numerous other rare ores. In the next few articles, we will therefore show you how to find gold, diamonds and redstone in Minecraft.
