Calling with the Galaxy Tab - is that possible?
You can also make calls with the Samsung Galaxy Tab - we present two options: one with, one without a SIM card in the Galaxy Tab.
Make calls with a SIM card using the Galaxy Tab
Is there a SIM card in your Galaxy Tab or not? If you have a SIM card, for example with a data flat rate, in your tablet, then nothing stands in the way of a phone call. However, pay attention to how high the minute prices for calls are for your SIM card that is actually intended for the Internet connection. Otherwise you could experience a nasty surprise here with the next bill. With some Galaxy Tabs you have to activate the phone function first:
- To do this, go to the "Call settings" submenu in the settings menu.
- There you have to select the option "Activate voice call".
You should also find the dialer app, which you may be familiar with from your Android smartphone, on your Galaxy Tab under the menu area »Phone« - select a contact, tap the handset symbol and you're ready to go. It is best to use a headset to make calls. On the one hand, 7- to 10-inch tablets do not look very elegant on the ear, on the other hand, the integrated hands-free speaker can also be too weak to enable a pleasant conversation. Your tablet may only include conventional headphones. In this case, use the headset on your smartphone.
Calls without a SIM card - that's how it works on Samsung's tabs too
Even if you do not have a SIM card in your tablet and are only online via WLAN, you can make calls with your Samsung tablet. In the meantime, a call no longer has to be made via the telephone network, which is why there are also solutions that use the Internet connection (via WLAN):
- In addition to free video chats, "Skype" also offers chargeable but very cheap connections to normal telephone numbers worldwide. All you have to do is install the "Skype" app on your Samsung Galaxy Tab, top up your company credit and you can easily reach any number anywhere in the world from the tablet at a fair price.
- An interesting alternative to this is the "Yuilop" service, which you can use to make free calls and send text messages via WLAN - even to normal telephone numbers. The app for Android is financed by advertising, in addition you have a limited amount of “energy” for SMS or phone calls, which you can recharge with incoming calls, SMS or promotions.
The range of such "VoIP" services ("Voice over IP" = Internet telephony) is large, "Skype" has proven to be very reliable here, but other providers can also score with good offers and quality. However, don't expect too much here. Especially with free offers, the connection and voice quality sometimes leaves a lot to be desired.
