Pay with your smartphone - there are options
More and more shops in cooperation with financial institutions are offering mobile payments with their smartphones. In this article, we show you which options are now available.
Pay mobile with your smartphone - there are options
All mobile payment methods have one thing in common: They rely on the new and fairly secure Near Field Communication (NFC) radio standard.
- If you want to buy groceries quickly and don't have any cash at hand, that's no longer a problem at the Netto discounter and at many REWE stores. You simply pull out your smartphone at the checkout.
- You can also pay at most Edeka branches using the corresponding app on your smartphone.
- Apple's payment method is called Apple Pay and has only been on the market since October 2014. At the moment it is only available in the USA, but it should also be used in other countries. With a little trick, however, you can activate Apple Pay outside the United States. In the United States, around 220, 000 businesses are currently participating in Apple's mobile payment process. At Netto, you can now also pay for your purchase using the Apple Watch Pay service, a somewhat modified form of Apple Pay.
- Telekom called your smartphone payment method MyWallet. To use it, you need a MasterCard in addition to the app and the NFC SIM card. You can then use your smartphone to pay at around 1.6 million MasterCard® PayPass ™ acceptance points worldwide. However, MyWallet will be discontinued on December 31, 2016.
- However, Telekom has not yet completely abandoned the smartphone payment process. In the meantime, the company has entered the O2 and Vodafone mPass process, which can be used to pay at numerous fast food chains, petrol stations and other shops.
