Stream with the VLC Media Player: Here's how it works
When streaming with the VLC media player, you can receive both audio and video content over the Internet. We'll show you how it's done.
Receive streams with the VLC media player
To receive a video stream or an audio stream, such as an Internet radio, you need the URL of the stream.
- Open the VLC Media Player, click on "Media" in the menu bar on the top right.
- If you select the item "Open network stream", a new window opens.
- Now enter the network address of the stream above. You can find this on the website of the provider. There may also be a button with a VLC logo there. If it is a private stream, you usually need the IP address.
- So that the stream also runs smoothly, you should activate the checkmark in front of the "Show more options" item and increase the caching value somewhat, for example to 5000 ms.
- If you then click the "Play" button, the stream starts.
In this practical tip, we explain how to optimally set the buffer for receiving streams.
