Frying with olive oil: you need to know that
Olive oil is only suitable for frying to a limited extent. Although it provides a great aroma with its special taste, you shouldn't let some olive oil products get too hot in the pan. Nevertheless, in some cases you can use olive oil.
Olive oil: partially suitable for frying
A basic distinction is made between two different types of olive oil. This also has a significant effect when roasting. We explain what you should consider when choosing.
- Cold-pressed virgin olive oil contains more healthy fats and fat accompanying substances such as vitamin E than refined olive oil. You can use it for frying, but be careful not to start smoking. The smoking process starts at around 160 degrees and harmful substances are released. As a rule, however, a temperature of less than 160 degrees should be sufficient for cooking, cooking and roasting - but you should only heat it at a medium setting. A plus point of virgin olive oil: the respective taste color of the oil give your food a special note that is retained even when frying.
- Watch out for unfiltered native oils: These oils often contain small pieces of fruit that can only be heated up to 140 degrees.
- Refined olive oil is definitely suitable for frying. Due to the hot-pressed production, the oil contains less healthy ingredients and flavors, but can be heated up to 230 degrees.
