Cross parking with Smart: In these cases it is allowed
Parking spaces are becoming increasingly scarce, especially in large cities, so that one or the other smart driver is forced to cross-park. In this practical tip, we will tell you whether this is allowed at all and when a fine is imminent.
With the Smart across the gap: theoretically allowed, practically prohibited
As a rule, we park our cars parallel to the street on the right shoulder. If you own a Smart or another small car, you occasionally fit across a gap.
- In principle, cross-parking is not prohibited in Germany, but it is also not explicitly permitted. Quer-Parker's biggest argument is paragraph 12, paragraph 6 of the Road Traffic Act. It says that drivers should park as space-saving as possible.
- Nevertheless, many cross-parkers collect a ticket. Mostly, 15 euros are due for cross parking. The reason for the nodule is usually a risk to other road users.
- Since a Smart is always a bit longer than all other cars, it protrudes a little from the parking space. Other drivers may find it more difficult to get out of the parking space and may have a restricted view.
Parking gray area across: Smart drivers need to know that
- Since the regulatory office issues a ticket in many cases, ADAC and TÜV generally advise against cross parking. If there is no other way, you can still try your luck.
- In the past, several smart drivers have sued for the fine and have often been right. This also applies to drivers of other small cars.
- However, it was always crucial that the sloping parking was appropriate, so that the parking space was used optimally. Both standing and flowing traffic must not be hindered.
- Conclusion: If these two factors are met, you can try your luck. An objection or a lawsuit against the administrative offense can, however, lead to higher costs and wasted time.
