Controlling the PC remotely with Teamviewer: Instructions
With TeamViewer you can control PCs remotely. In this guide, we explain how to use the program and what helpful features it has.
Step 1: Install TeamViewer
- Download the free TeamViewer and start the EXE file.
- When installing, it is sufficient to select the "Start only" item. In this way, no data from the program is saved on the computer. If you want to use TeamViewer more often, we recommend the "Install" option.
- Select the item "private / non-commercial" as the type of use, provided you do not make any money with remote maintenance.
- Then click the "Agree" button and the program starts.
- Follow the steps on the other PC as well.
Step 2: Connect the computer via TeamViewer
In the following steps, we will refer to the computer being accessed as the "sender". We refer to the helping computer that sees the other person's desktop as the "recipient".
- When the program is started, an ID and a password are displayed for each computer (see picture).
- Have the sender's ID and password transmitted to the recipient.
- The recipient must enter both data on the right of the screen. Type in the ID and click on the "Connect with partner" button. After a short connection phase, the password is requested, which you must confirm with "Login".
- Then a large window opens at the receiver in which you can see the desktop of the transmitter. All programs are minimized at the transmitter. The screen background is completely blackened to protect privacy.
Step 3: control the computer remotely
- You now have full control of the sender PC on the receiver PC. However, the transmitter can cancel the transmission at any time by closing the program at the bottom right.
- The recipient can carry out all actions in the window that he can also use on his own computer. Even key combinations can be easily transferred.
- At the top of the menu bar of the window you will find numerous other commands that you can execute under "Actions".
- Among other things, you can start a "change of direction" here so that the transmission is exchanged. The transmitter becomes the receiver and vice versa.
- With "Block remote input" the recipient has full control over the computer of the sender. The transmitter can no longer perform any actions.
Step 4: Use other features in TeamViewer
The following functions are accessible to both users. The transmitter can start it via the small status window at the bottom right. The recipient has access to it via the menu bar in the transmission window.
- Communication: Under the menu item "Audio / Video" you can make a chat, a webcam transmission, a conference call and a call over the Internet. In this way you can exchange information with the partner directly in TeamViewer.
- File exchange: A small explorer opens via "File transfer" (see picture). On the left you see the data of your own computer, on the right that of the other. You can easily drag and drop any files from one PC to the other. The partner is always notified which files have been transferred.
- Record session: With the "session recording" you can record the current broadcast and watch it at a later time.
