Increase PC speed with Windows on-board tools
Your PC speed can also be increased with Windows on-board resources. You do not have to install any tuning software and still get some performance reserves from your computer.
1. Remove unnecessary programs from the autostart
The biggest culprits for a slow PC are mostly installed programs that are anchored in the autostart. You have deactivated these programs with Windows functions in a few steps.
- Click "Start" and enter "Run" in the search field. Select the search result of the same name.
- Now enter "msconfig" in the "Open:" field. A window opens with the name "System configuration".
- Go to the "System Start" tab. Uncheck the programs that you do not need in autostart. Programs like "Spotify" or "Kies" can be safely deactivated. In any case, leave the antivirus program activated.
2. Unload the hard disk - uninstall programs
Even if you have removed the programs from the autostart, other performance killers are still slumbering on your hard drive. You can remove them with the Windows "Programs and Features" tool.
- Go back to "Start" and look for "Uninstall Programs". Select the entry of the same name.
- A window appears in which all installed programs are listed. Look for programs that you no longer use.
- Select the entry with a left click. It is highlighted in blue and the "Uninstall" button appears. Select this to remove the program from the hard drive.
3. Change the display and increase system performance
Aero peek or window shadows are nice, but they also use up resources. Turning this off can significantly increase PC speed.
- Click "Start" and enter "Appearance and Performance" in the search field. Select the entry "Customize the appearance and performance of Windows".
- Now the "performance options" open. Click on the "Visual Effects" tab. Either choose the option "Adjust for optimal performance" or switch off as many entries as possible. The more you disable, the better it affects your PC speed.
- Now go to the "Advanced" tab. Under "Processor scheduling" select "Adjust optimal performance for:" "Programs".
- Virtual memory also plays an important role. To do this, click the "Change ..." button.
- A size of approximately 3 GB is useful for most systems. Uncheck "Automatically manage paging file size for all drives".
- Now select "Custom size:". Enter approximately 2, 000 MB as the "initial size" and approximately 3, 800 MB as the "maximum size".
- Click the "Set" button and then "OK".
It was tested under Windows 7. Tip: An additional SSD hard drive can increase your PC speed considerably.
