Lose weight with cinnamon: that's the cinnamon diet
Lose weight with cinnamon - that sounds really delicious. However, a cinnamon diet does not consist of gingerbread and cinnamon stars. We explain what lies behind this in this health tip.
This is how cinnamon is supposed to help you lose weight
Cinnamon is said to have various healthy effects on the body.
- Cinnamon, which you can also grind from sticks, has a positive effect on fat metabolism.
- In connection with the topic of losing weight, an effect of cinnamon is particularly interesting: the spice is apparently able to lower the blood sugar level.
- The ingredient methylhydroxychalconpolymers, abbreviated MHCP, is responsible for this effect.
- Laboratory experiments with rats have shown that MHCP works in a similar way to insulin. The substance improves the cells' ability to absorb glucose, i.e. sugar.
- For this reason, cinnamon is also recommended as a remedy for diabetes.
- In animal experiments, a reduction in weight was also found through the administration of cinnamon.
- However, the results of the studies cannot simply be transferred to humans.
- In addition, no recommendations can be made for cinnamon doses that may lead to weight loss in humans.
Cinnamon is not without its dangers
If you want to lose weight with cinnamon, there are a few things to consider.
- Regardless of the fact that it is not clearly proven that losing weight works with cinnamon, the spice also harbors some dangers.
- Especially the ingredient coumarin can damage the liver in high doses. For this reason, you should generally prefer Ceylon cinnamon to cassia cinnamon. The former contains less coumarin.
- You should do without food supplements that offer cinnamon in capsule form. Cassia cinnamon is usually used for this and in relatively high doses.
- From a certain amount, cinnamon is harmful to health.
- Nor do many people know that consuming cinnamon can cause an allergic reaction. People who are allergic to pollen are particularly at risk here.
- This does not mean that you will have to do without cinnamon as a spice in the future. However, you should use it sparingly.
