Mozilla Firefox: Automatically update outdated plugins
Outdated browser plugins represent a major security vulnerability. However, Mozilla Firefox cannot automatically update the extensions, since they are mostly standalone programs. We will show you how to bring the plugins up to date.
Manually update obsolete Firefox plugins
Although Mozilla Firefox does not offer an automatic update function for plugins, the extensions are quickly updated by hand.
- First enter the "about: addons" command (with a colon, without a space after it) in the address bar. This will take you to the browser add-on page.
- In the left column, select the [Plugins] entry. Now click on the link at the top: [Check whether your plugins are up to date].
- Firefox will then look for new updates for your plugins. If extensions are out of date, a red button appears with the text [Update now]. Click on it to update the plugin.
In this practical tip, we explain how you can automatically update the add-ons in Firefox. You can find out the difference between plugins and addons here.
