MP3 CD vs. Audio CD - the differences
If you want to burn a CD, you always have the choice between an MP3 CD and an audio CD. We show you the differences and which format you need for your needs.
What is the difference between MP3 and audio CD?
A CD usually has a storage space of 700 MB and records a maximum of 80 minutes of music.
- MP3 CD: This is a common data CD. The music files are simply burned onto the CD in MP3 format. The CD can hold up to 700 MB of music. If the quality is good, one minute of playing time takes around 2 MB. Therefore, around 350 minutes of music fit on an MP3 CD. With lower quality even more.
- Audio CD: With this variant, the CD is burned like any conventional music CD from the trade. Depending on the manufacturer, an audio CD can fit only 74 to 80 minutes of music. That's enough for around 20 songs.
- An MP3 CD sounds much more advantageous: it can fit a lot more music and the songs can be copied directly from the CD. However, MP3 CDs can only be played on MP3 compatible devices. This includes computers and most newer playback devices. An audio CD is required if you want to listen to your music in an older CD player or in the car radio. An MP3 CD is also increasingly supported here.
