Create mp3 in iTunes: Here's how
With iTunes you can also create MP3s if you don't know what to do with the AAC format recommended by iTunes.
Create MP3 version in iTunes
If you import a CD from your drive into iTunes, it is often converted to AAC format. If you do not want this, you can create MP3 versions of the songs.
- Start iTunes and select the desired song.
- Right-click and select "Create MP3 Version" from the context menu.
- The file now created is automatically imported into iTunes and is located directly below the original version.
Create MP3 without iTunes
If the conversion via iTunes does not work, you can use conversion software such as the Free M4a to MP3 Converter or the Freemake Audio Converter. In this guide we use the first converter:
- Download the Free M4a to MP3 Converter from us in the CHIP download area and install the program.
- Click the "Add Files" button in the top left of the window and select the songs you want from your computer.
- The songs are automatically converted to MP3 format using the "Convert" button.
- Note: If you wish, you can use the "Settings" button at the bottom right to tweak the quality.
- If you want to save the MP3 file in a different location, right-click the newly created file again and select the item "Show in Windows Explorer".
