MS Office Word: Number pictures automatically
If your Word document contains several images, you can have them numbered automatically. So you always have an overview and save a lot of paperwork.
Automatically number pictures in Word - Here's how
There are two options for automatically numbering your pictures in Word:
- Either select the "References" in the main menu. Then click on the first picture. In the menu section, you select the "Insert labels" option in the "Labels" section.
- In the "Labeling" menu, you can then make all the necessary settings, such as the type of numbering and the associated labeling. Finally confirm your settings with "OK".
- Better work with the context menu, click on the picture and then select "Insert caption". The further procedure is as already described above.
- For the other pictures, click with the right mouse button on the picture and choose "Insert caption" again and confirm with "OK".
Renumber Word pictures later
If you later find out that you have to delete one or the other image or insert it later, you do not have to carry out the whole procedure again:
- If you have inserted pictures into the text document later, click on "Insert caption" and "OK". The Office program inserts the correct picture number and then automatically renumbers all subsequent photos accordingly.
- If you subsequently delete images from the Word document, this is also not a problem: First select the entire text with the key combination [Ctrl] + [A] and then press the [F9] key. Word will renumber all pictures.
