Mumble: Setting up the server - how it works
With your own Mumble server, you can communicate with your friends while playing. Setting up works in just a few simple steps, as we will show you in this practical tip.
Set up Mumble server under Windows - so it'll work
First download Mumble from our download portal and start the wizard.
- Select the "User-defined installation" and in the next step click on the arrow next to "Murmur (server)".
- In the context menu, you must finally select the option "The function will be installed completely on the local hard disk" and confirm with "Next".
- After successful installation, change to the Mumble directory. Double-click on "murmur.exe" to start the server.
- Before you start the server, however, you should edit the configuration file ("murmur.ini"). You can find detailed information on how to edit this file here.
- So that the Mumble server can also be reached, you must activate port 64738 for TCP and UDP in your router and firewall.
- To obtain administrator rights, first connect to the server and click on "Self"> "Register". Then close the connection and switch to the server list via "Server"> "Connect".
- Right-click on your server there and select "Edit". Change the user name to "SuperUser" and enter your previously defined password as the password.
- Now connect to the server and right-click on the top channel and select "Edit". Change there to the "Groups" tab and "admin" there. Enter the user name you just created in the field next to "Add" and click "Add". You can then start setting up the server.
