Stream music through AV receivers - how it works
You can stream music with most current AV receivers. There are almost no limits to the way you transmit music.
Convenient but not for nothing: Stream Spotify via AV receiver
A Denon AVR-X1100 is used as an example device in this practical tip. You can perform all operations in a similar way on other devices that support these features.
- With Spotify you can connect to many receivers and then play your playlists.
- Unfortunately, this only works with a premium subscription from Spotify. Your receiver then automatically streams the music and your mobile phone becomes a remote control with the Spotify client.
- You only need to connect your receiver and your cell phone to the same network. Your receiver already appears as a playback device on your cell phone. No further settings are necessary.
Also with Apple support: music streaming via AirPlay
It works almost the same with Apple's AirPlay streaming protocol:
- The receiver automatically appears on any AirPlay-compatible device or directly in iTunes after you have dialed in with the device in your network.
- All you have to do is press the AirPlay symbol and you can enjoy your music on your system.
Stream music to your system with DLNA
Some devices can also handle streams that they reach via DLNA:
- DLNA is relatively widespread and your PC, NAS or FritzBox can serve as the host.
- In most cases, your receiver then has a special input channel for such streams or detects whether a stream is arriving via Spotify, Airplay or DLNA.
- Especially for the PC, we will show you how you can use the VLC media to stream music or video files to the network. You can also find detailed instructions in our video:
Receive web radio with AV receiver
Like any home theater center with LAN or WLAN, web radio stations can also receive and play:
- The advantage of this is that you can use it to listen to local stations and at the same time there is a very large selection of international stations.
- The quality of the digitally transmitted signal is usually better than that of FM.
- However, you cannot decide which music is played and most Internet broadcasters have to expect advertising more often than on standard radio.
- But it is always a good alternative to the other streaming methods.
If none of the variants shown convinces you, you can also stream your music with the Chromecast.
