Recognize music - the best Android apps
Tools with which you can recognize music are probably the most useful apps for Android smartphones. Here you can find out which of them deliver the best results.
Shazam - the classic among music recognition tools
Shazam is well known to most smartphone users. With around 100, 000, 000 monthly users, Shazam is one of the most downloaded apps from the PlayStore. And not without reason, because the results and setting options are convincing.
- You can scan as many songs as you like - also in the free version.
- Set it to scan as soon as Shazam starts, never miss a song again.
- You can then listen to the music found on YouTube or buy it on Amazon. You can also display the lyrics for the song.
- Your previously scanned songs are saved in "My Tags".
- You can share music discoveries via Facebook.
- In the first practical test in June 2015, we tried Shazam with three good quality songs (Castle of Glass - Linkin Park, Turn up the music - Chris Brown, Green Granada - Marsimoto). The hit rate was two out of three. Under noise, we had two more tracks scanned (FR - Einfach mal ..., Alex Clare - Too close, Flo Rida - Let it Roll). All titles were recognized.
- In the re-sampling of 3 songs in good quality and 3 under background noise (exposed - Marsimoto, night air - Fabian Römer, Burn it Down - Linkin Park, Tragedy + Time - Rise Against, Ryan Adams - Style, Closer - The Chainsmokers) all were recognized.
SoundHound - sing songs yourself
SoundHound also promises to find songs that you sing yourself.
- You can connect Soundhound to Facebook and Twitter to share music with your friends.
- The "Preview" function scans the music as soon as you start the app.
- Lists in SoundHound such as "Recently searched tracks" or "SoundHound discoveries" help you track down new music.
- After scanning, you can view songs on YouTube or buy them on Amazon. In addition, as with "Shazam", you can also display the lyrics for the titles.
- What is new is that you can now subscribe to the Facebook and Twitter entries of your favorite artists using the "Social Feeds" function.
- In the first test, all the songs of the scanned music were found in good quality. With noise, Soundhound recognized only one title. However, the function of singing songs yourself and being able to find them did not result in a single hit (Passenger - Let her go, Linkin Park - Burn it down) - which could also be due to the singing qualities of the test person ;-)
- Even now SoundHound recognized music in good quality promptly, with noises two of three songs were found. The hit rate for singing or whistling songs remains at 0 percent in the test.
Track ID - the simple music scanner alternative
A slightly less well-known music recognition app is TrackID. This tool does not have to hide from the big competition.
- You can read additional information such as the artist's biographies directly in the app.
- You can buy songs via "7digital", watch them on YouTube or share the search results with your friends in all possible ways. Recently the music portal Deezer has also been integrated.
- If you record a song but are not connected to the Internet, TrackID saves the melody and searches for the music track as soon as you are connected again.
- In the first attempt, all songs were found in good quality for the recorded tracks. With noises, TrackID didn't recognize a single song.
- The second test is more positive. All songs were still found in good quality, the noise rate improves to two out of three played songs.
MusicID - music recognition app in a new design
While the "MusicID" app used to be a very simple music recognition program, it now also offers all the important features and shines with a new design.
- After scanning the songs, MusicID shows you the album covers and information about the artist.
- You can now also have your location determined and add appropriate notes.
- The sharing of the songs found via the social networks has also been integrated and you can buy the songs directly on Amazon or 7digital.
- The detection rate is the lowest in the test. Good quality songs recognized two out of three, while songs with noise were only one out of three.
Conclusion - It's the music mix that matters
Overall, all four tools delivered useful results. Shazam secures the highest recognition rate, followed by SoundHound, TrackID and MusicID.
- "Shazam" performed the most balanced - a successful mix of good music recognition and many additional functions.
- With "SoundHound" the "audition" function may give you better results if you have a more beautiful singing voice. In any case, the easiest way to discover new music is with this music app.
- If you want to learn more about the artists and also share your search results via WhatsApp, Skype and Co., "TrackID" is the right choice for you.
- If you prefer a nice interface or are dissatisfied with the other apps, you should take a look at the alternative "MusicID"
It was tested under Android 4.1.2 and an LG-E610 as well as Android 5.0.2 and a Galaxy Alpha. In the next practical tip, you will find out whether downloading music (videos) from YouTube is legal or not.
