Install MySQL database on Mac OS X.
You can easily install a MySQL database on Mac OS X. In this guide you will find all the necessary steps.
Mac OS X: Install MySQL database server
- Go to the MySQL page for installation.
- Select "Mac OS X" from the dropdown menu and download the package that matches your operating system. Important: you need a "dmg" file format for installation!
- You will then be asked to log in or register. You can skip this step by clicking on "No thanks, just start my download".
- Open the "dmg" file, you will get 4 different files. Start the installation by executing the file "mysql-5.5.9-osx10.6-x86_64.pkg". The file name may differ slightly.
- Follow the instructions of the installation wizard and enter your administrator password if necessary.
- After installation, switch back to the "dmg" file and open "MySQLStartupItem.pkg".
- Follow the instructions here and re-enter your administrator password here, if necessary.
- After installing this application, switch back to the "dmg" file to install the "MySQL.prefPane" file.
- Then a small window opens. Click on "Install" here.
- After successful installation, the MySQL configuration window opens and you can start the server.
