If you cannot take your night shots at night, you can also simulate them in daylight. We show you how to do this.
Simulate night shots in daylight
To simulate night shots in daylight, you need an ND filter and a strong blue filter. It is also helpful if you can immediately view the images in a darker environment.
- Screw your ND filter onto the camera and twist it so that very little light reaches the lens.
- It is best to position the sun far behind you. The less light the better.
- Use the blue filter to replicate the cold blue of the night sky. At the same time, the attachment darkens all bright colors of the day or even filters them out completely.
- Also take your pictures underexposed. In particular, the foreground of your picture and the front side of the subject should be strongly underexposed. This creates a dark night effect.
- To find the right lighting quickly, you should take a series of pictures with different exposures. Many DSRL cameras have an extra mode for this.
- A black and white film can significantly improve the result. Alternatively, activate the black and white mode of your digital camera.
Alternatively, you can also make a day or night picture in Photoshop. The best thing to do is swap the background and create motion blur.
