Nail polish test: winner of the eco test
Ökotest took a close look at 23 nail polishes and chose a clear winner: one nail polish received the top grade "very good". The beauty products were tested for critical ingredients - many nail polishes are therefore criticized.
Nail polish at Öko-Test: only one varnish is "very good"
Perfectly painted fingernails are part of a well-groomed outfit for many women. But be careful: As Öko-Test (07/2018) found out, many paints contain harmful ingredients. Out of 23 nail polishes tested, only one product received the top grade and was rated "very good":
- The "Logona Natural Nail Polish 05 Urban Taupe" is the test winner with the Bestonote. However, the nail polish is not cheap: 10ml cost 37.38 euros.
- It is also the first and only certified organic color nail polish. Instead of nitrocellulose (more about the substance), the manufacturer uses a natural ingredient, shellac. It is obtained from the excretion of scale insects.
Nail polish in the test: "Good" price-performance winner
- Only four nail polishes scored "good". Öko-Test criticizes everyone that the plasticizer contains acetyltributyl citrate.
- With a price of 2.05 euros per 10ml, the cheapest among the runners-up is the colorless "Trend It Up UV Power Gel High Shine Top Coat".
- You can find out all the details of the test for a fee as ePaper on oekotest.de or at United Kiosk
Most nail polishes have failed Öko-Test
Öko-Test has also examined the beauty products for other questionable or controversial ingredients. In many nail polishes, questionable UV filters were found that can have a hormonal effect. The solvent styrene was also in some nail polishes and can cause allergies. The experts also found plasticizers, the health effects of which have not yet been scientifically researched. Most of the nail polishes tested are harmful to health, so the conclusion can be summarized.
- Two nail polishes are "deficient": The "Manhattan Super Gel Nail Polish, 155" and the black "PS ... Nail Polish" contain acetyltributyl citrate and questionable UV filters. The nail polish "PS ... Nail Polish" also contains the solvent styrene.
- Five nail polishes were given an "insufficient" test because of clearly harmful or at least questionable ingredients. Including the "Max Factor X Gel Shine Lacquer", which is one of the more expensive nail polishes with over 10 euros per 10ml.
So that the nail polish is also worthwhile, you can make the nail polish last longer. On the next page we show how exactly this works.
