Move Navigon maps to SD
If you move the map material of your Navigon Android app to the SD card, you will noticeably free up the internal device memory. After all, several hundred MBytes are downloaded in large countries such as Germany and France.
Step 1: move Navigon maps to the SD card
Unfortunately, Navigon does not offer an option for this. We show you how to trick the app with a little trick:
- Open your file manager. For Samsung devices, for example, it is called "My Documents".
- Navigate to the internal memory, select the Navigon folder and click on "Copy".
- A new window opens in which you can select the external memory this time.
- Now click on "Paste". Make sure that the Navigon folder is created in the root directory of the map. This means that you do not create the folder as a subfolder of existing directories. The structure should then look something like this: external_sd \ Navigon.
- When the copying is finished, switch back to the internal memory and delete the entire Navigon folder. Don't worry: it has been completely outsourced to the external card. You don't lose any data.
Step 2: reinstall Navigon
So that the navigation app also recognizes the moved data, only one thing helps: a new installation.
- Switch to the settings menu of your Android device and select the application manager.
- Select the Navigon app, delete the cache and data and then the entire app.
- Go to the Google Play Store and download "Navigon" again.
- When the newly installed Navigon app is started for the first time, the program automatically recognizes the changed directory and will continue to load updates and maps there in the future.
Tip: Use memory card automatically for Navigon maps
- In the current version of the Navigon app, you can choose at the first start whether you want to download the map material to the internal memory of your device or to the SD card.
- A subsequent change is no longer so easy, you can only determine a new storage location if there is insufficient storage space.
- Otherwise you have to reinstall the app so that the selection menu reappears.
Tip: You can also move other apps to the SD card on Android.
