We all know it: hotline queues that can take the last nerve and a lot of time. However, with a few tricks you can avoid them cleverly - we will reveal the secrets in this article.
Hotline trick: talking is silver, silence is gold
Many queues require you to say your customer number at some point or to press certain keys to advance. You can use such moments with a trick.
- As soon as you are asked to speak, you should avoid this or simply call words randomly on the phone. The reason: The operators of hotlines take care of people with language problems and automatically forward them to an available employee.
- This trick usually doesn't work the first time. You will often be asked to repeat what has been said. Repeat the whole thing about three times before the machine forwards it to the responsible person.
- This also works if you have to enter something. If prompted, just skip this step. The computer then assumes that you need help with the input - and puts you through to an employee directly.
Just skip the computer voice
You also have the option of skipping the computer announcement with a simple trick. We tested it at Telekom.
- Just say "Next" to each question. The computer then skips the announcement and guides you to the next question. You can repeat this as often as you like until you end up with a freelancer.
- It is not clear whether this works for all providers. But it is worth a try, because it also saves you a lot of time.
Get directly connected to an employee
If the trick does not work because no input is required, you can still bypass the annoying hotline queue.
- You should dial the direct number for this and not be connected via the hotline. In this way, you often save not only money, but also time.
- On the 0180.info website you can find replacement numbers that you can dial instead of the hotline. To do this, simply enter the desired company on the page and find the right replacement for you. Often you will also find comments on the phone numbers here so that you can assess which number is the right one for you.
Avoid the annoying waiting loop with the name trick
So that you are not connected to the computer voice and put through to an employee directly, the name trick helps:
- When you call and connect to the computer, you may have made the mistake of asking for a specific person, e.g. B .: "I would like to speak to Mr. X or Ms. Y".
- It is better to say that you are calling the person back, e.g. B. "I'll call Mr. X or Ms. Y back". In this way, you are usually connected directly to the person you want.
- If you repeatedly meet the computer voice and end up in the annoying waiting loop instead of the desired employee, it makes sense to pretend a private conversation.
- Just say your first name and ask for the desired employee. However, you will probably not be put through to the managing director in this way.
Avoid queues: plan your call cleverly
If you plan your call skilfully on a hotline, you can avoid the queue or at least wait significantly shorter. Here are a few tips:
- Ask yourself if it makes sense to call the hotline. If your question is not urgent, you can also send an email. Many companies also offer chats that usually get you to your destination faster. So see if it is possible to bypass the call entirely. This saves a lot of time.
- If the call is necessary because you prefer to speak to someone directly, avoid peak call times. You have to expect the longest waiting times, especially in the midday between 12 and 2 p.m. and in the evening after 5 p.m. So it's better to call in the morning if you don't want to wait that long.
