Netflix: change resolution - how it works
Netflix streams all series and films in HD. If your current playback is not sharp, you should change the resolution. In this article, we reveal how to do this.
Change resolution on Netflix
To see everything in HD on Netflix, you need a corresponding subscription for two or more devices. You can then change the resolution indirectly via the settings. The quality of the videos is related to the permitted data consumption:
- To do this, open the Netflix website and log in to your account.
- Then click on your profile picture and the entry "Account" in the top right corner.
- In the "My Profile" section, click on "Playback Settings".
- If you select the "Automatic" option here, Netflix adjusts the streaming quality to your Internet connection. If you always want to watch in HD, select the "High" entry - if available, 4K films are shown in this setting in UHD. With "Medium" you get a resolution of around 720p and with "Low" you stream in SD quality.
- Finally save your selection with "Save".
Change resolution in the Netflix apps
If you use the streaming service on your smartphone or tablet via the Netflix app, you can also adjust the resolution. However, this only works for streaming via a mobile data connection. If you stream via WLAN, Netflix automatically selects the appropriate resolution for your Internet speed and your device.
- Tap the menu icon with the three horizontal buttons in the top left and select the "App settings".
- Then tap the "Mobile data usage" entry in the "Video playback" section.
- If you activate the "Automatic" entry there, Netflix adjusts the resolution to your current Internet speed. However, if you choose "Save Data", Netflix will lower the resolution to SD quality. The entry "Maximum data consumption" increases the resolution to HD or 4K - depending on the film and device.
On the next page, we'll tell you how to stream in 4K resolution on Netflix.
