In this practical tip, we will show you how you define your preferences at Netflix and how you receive individual and interesting film and series suggestions.
Define preferences and receive Netflix recommendations
- First, open the Netflix website, click your user picture and username in the top right.
- Select "Your Account" In the section "Your profile" you will find the link to your preferences.
- You will now see the "Preferences Settings". Here you can define the moods, for example. Rate the options with either "Never", "Sometimes" or "Often".
- You can do the same in the "Genres" section below and specify which type of films you would like to watch.
- At the top of the drop-down menu under "Choose a category type" you can also define your taste for categories such as "publication date" or "basis for action".
Netflix thumb preferences (formerly stars)
By the way, there are other ways you can express Netflix's preferences:
- With the thumb symbol, the successor of the rating with stars, you can tell Netflix your preferences. The stars were misunderstood by most Netfix users: Because they did not give a rating that was included in an average.
- Rather, the evaluation serves to get to know the individual preferences of the user and to react to them. So give a movie a thumbs up and Netflix will find out what you like - or not. There is no ranking.
From now on, Netflix will show you content specially tailored to you. In another practical tip, we will show you how to use Netflix with Google Chromecast.
