Remove Netlock - that's how it works with all providers
If your smartphone has been provided with a netlock by the mobile network provider, you can remove it in many cases directly. We'll show you how it's done.
Remove Netlock - when and why?
- A Netlock binds you to the respective network provider when you buy a smartphone with a contract. So you can change providers, but they must use the same mobile network.
- As a rule, a netlock is released after 24 months. If you want to remove the lock beforehand, this costs around 100 euros from your mobile operator.
- However, there are also companies that offer unlocking much cheaper. However, the guarantee from the mobile phone provider is lost.
- Further information can be found in the practical tip on the subject of Simlock.
Remove Netlock from Vodafone, O2 and E-Plus
- The mobile operators O2 and E-Plus have not used any netlocks in the past. Unlocking is therefore not necessary.
- Vodafone has provided some smartphones with netlocks in the past, but has not done so since 2015. All existing netlocks were canceled automatically.
Remove Netlock from Telekom
At Telekom too, the Netlock is slowly dying out. If your smartphone is not an iPhone, use the following instructions to unlock it:
- Open the following Telekom website and enter the IMEI number of your mobile phone.
- You can find the IMEI number in the settings on your smartphone. Alternatively, simply call the code * # 06 # on your mobile phone.
- If you follow the next steps, your smartphone will be activated within the next 48 hours.
- With some devices you will also receive an unlock code by post. If you insert a non-network SIM card, you can remove the Netlock using the code on the smartphone.
Remove Netlock from iPhone
- Telekom has no longer used netlocks on iPhones since the beginning of 2014, and Vodafone has also completely dispensed with netlocks since early 2015.
- If there is still a Netlock on your device, you only need to synchronize the iPhone with iTunes. Simply connect the device to your computer using a USB cable and start iTunes.
- Alternatively, you can simply | download the latest iOS version from your iPhone.
