Power supply: fan rattles - you can do that
If the fan rattles off your power supply, you should act quickly to avoid major defects. In this practical tip, we will tell you what you can do.
Fan rattles from the power supply - you can do that
In most cases, this problem can be solved with just a few simple steps:
- Note: Before you carry out any work, you should remove the power plug from the socket so that you do not get an electric shock. Then wait a few minutes for the power to discharge completely.
- Dust has often settled on the fan, which is why it now rattles. You can use a vacuum cleaner to carefully remove dust from the fan. However, please note the warranty conditions of your computer before screwing it on.
- Alternatively, you can also clean the fan with a brush or compressed air. The latter is the safest.
- In the same step, you should make sure that the power supply and the fan are seated correctly. To do this, carefully wiggle the power supply to check this.
- If the power supply is loose, you should retighten all screws and place it back firmly.
- Over time, the fan bearing can wear out, which can also cause chatter. In this case, unfortunately, only a complete replacement of the power supply helps. In the next practical tip, we have put together what you need to consider when installing the new power supply.
- If you cannot solve the problem and still have a warranty on the device, you should assert this and contact the manufacturer. This can then replace the fan or the power supply.
