Power supply reset - how it works
A power supply reset can be helpful if your PC doesn't seem to work properly for no reason. You can read how to do this in this practical tip.
How to reset your power supply
Since power supply units are in continuous operation, so to speak, incorrect voltage states can build up in the capacitors on the mainboard, which can seemingly drive the computer crazy. To fully discharge the capacitors, follow these instructions:
- Close all programs and switch off the PC.
- Set the toggle switch on the power supply unit to »Off«.
- If there is no switch, disconnect the power cord.
- Once this is done, it is best to wait a few minutes. The capacitors discharge during this time. Residual voltages in the power supply and on the mainboard are reduced.
- Now restore the power supply and switch on the computer. Most components should now function properly again.
